Hello Hong Kong: Reaching Victoria Peak!
|
Hong Kong skyline |
It was our first time in Hong Kong and like most travelers, we went to one of the most recommended tourist attractions in Hong Kong: the Victoria Peak! It was a monday, and we started our journey towards our destination at around 10am. Getting to Central station from Mongkok, was a piece of cake thanks to Hong Kong's most efficient MTR system. From Central Station, we then need to get to
The Peak Tram that will take us to Victoria Peak. The thing is, looking for the tram on foot wasn't very easy, being the noobs that we were.

This is the route we took. |

Hong kong is best explored on foot, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes, apply sunscreen, and carry an umbrella. |
After several minutes of walking and looking at road signs on where to go, we finally found
The Peak Tram! When we got there, we were surprised at the extremely long queue. It was monday, and I didn't know it would get this busy. There is a queue, right across the street, and it was sweltering hot! There was barely no A/C and it was very crowded. We lined up for what seemed like forever.

This is what it looks like. Tons of people are waiting for the tram to take them up. |
Finally, after buying our tickets and patiently waiting in line, we were able to reach the peak. It was a bit scary riding the tram. The track was very steep and the entire tram was packed with tourists. How is this thing still carrying all of us on top? It's amazing and daunting at the same time!

The Peak Tower |
Once at the top, you will see the The Peak Tower. Inside are a couple of shops and a wax museum. If you go at the very top (Sky Terrace), you will see the skyline of Hong kong and it's neighboring islands. The Sky Terrace, is standing at 428 metres above sea level, and is the highest viewing platform in Hong Kong offering a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of the city. Do keep your ticket so that you can avail of the free audio tour! :)
I don't think I'll be going back at the Peak anytime soon. It was a gorgeous experience nevertheless! Breathtaking and tiring! I didn't realize that I have a phobia for heights until I reached the Sky Terrace. The phobia didn't stop me from admiring the beautiful view though. It was definitely worth the wait.
